Conan, Kirby, and TCAF
TCAF was a great show, as you may have read elsewhere. I had a wonderful time, lots of great people - cartoonists, fans, show organizers. From my point of view everything worked well. So thanks to everyone who contributed, if all shows were that enjoyable, I could sell my house and live like a rockstar.

I shared a table with Tom "Godland" Scioli, and after talking Kirby all weekend, I came home and decided to draw some. I found a large jpeg of a Kirby pencil drawing of Conan. Printed it out in light blue, and inked it. It was very enjoyable, and won't be the last time I try something like this. If anyone wants it, email me an offer. I have no idea how to price something like this, so if your offer sounds good, it could be yours. It's 11.5 x 17 inches.

Wow, you got to ink Kirby pencils. That must have been kind of time-trippingly weird. He's a strange choice for drawing Conan, isn't he? It's like "Cosmic-Conan 3000!!" or something. Even when he did Devil Dinosaur, you felt like the Watcher was about to step out of a cloud of Kirby dots any moment with a big shiny McGuffin of a machine.

Hi, we met at TCAF; I bought the two American Virgin pages and I'm enjoying them a lot. It was great talking with you and I'm enjoying the art on your website, especially when you play with different styles (Afrodesiac images with badly registered colours!). I was looking at the Street Angel trade again and the Orphan Annie pic is hilarious. I like a man who knows his comics history!

Glad you don't regret those American Virgin pages! It was good talking with you. Thanks for checking out my site.

I love some of the drawings in Devil Dinosaur. Conan's not too far from Kamandi maybe.

Good point. I own the complete run of Kamandi! I love that period of Kirby.

Kirby was versatile, but all his world's came out feeling like one: a cross between the optimism of the American space age, Wagnerian mythological quests, the Lower-East Side dreams and brawls.
